Community Garden
P.E.E.R. is interested in working with the community to implement area gardens on empty lots and spaces in the South East Lake community. Four members of the community are currently attending training classes through Jones Valley Urban Farms. For the 2009 year, the community gardeners are planting small production gardens around church grounds (at East Lake UMC) to supplement the produce for our market basket program.
P.E.E.R. is working with community leaders to acquire property for a garden where neighbors can have a plot and grow their own food. We are also working with area schools and senior centers to assist them in planting gardens on their own sites.
